How to Generate Interview Questions and Guidelines with AI?

Streamline your interview creation with AI-generated interview guides. The platform generates mode-specific, structured guides tailored to your study’s title, objective, and selected interview mode. Each generated guide is ready to use immediately or can be refined with inline editing.

How AI Generation Works

When you click Generate with AI in the Interview Guide section, the platform uses your study’s title, objective, and selected interview mode to create a structured guide. The output varies by mode:

Structured Mode Output

AI generates a set of standalone, numbered questions organized by topic. No probing questions are included — each question is designed to be asked exactly as written.

The number of questions scales with your duration:

  • 5-minute interview: 3-5 questions
  • 10-minute interview: 5-8 questions
  • 15-minute interview: 8-12 questions
  • 30+ minute interview: 12-18 questions

Semi-Structured Mode Output

AI generates main questions, each with an optional probe bank — a set of follow-up questions the AI can draw from during the interview. Each question also receives a default probe policy and max probe count that you can adjust:

  • Probe policy controls how the AI selects probes: Ask all probes, Ask the most relevant, Ask at least one, or Only if needed
  • Max probes limits how many follow-up questions the AI can ask per main question

Unstructured Mode Output

AI generates high-level topics instead of specific questions. Each topic includes:

  • Opening prompt — A broad, open-ended prompt to start the conversation around this topic
  • Exploration guidance — Key areas the AI should explore within the topic
  • Optional probing guidelines — Prompts the AI can use if deeper exploration is needed

After Generation

Once the AI generates your guide:

  1. Review each item — Expand any question or topic card to see and edit its full configuration
  2. Edit inline — Click directly on question or topic text to modify it in place
  3. Reorder items — Drag items using the handle on the left to change their sequence
  4. Add or remove items — Use Add Question (or Add Topic) to add more, or click the trash icon to remove
  5. Assign stimulus — If you uploaded stimulus images, click the image icon on any item to assign visuals

Alternative: Paste an Existing Guide

If you already have an interview guide from a previous study or another tool, click Paste existing guide, paste your text, and click Structure pasted guide. The AI converts your freeform text into the structured format matching your selected mode — preserving your original questions while organizing them into the editable card-based format.

Tips for Better AI Generation

  • Be specific in your objective — The clearer your study goal, the more targeted the generated questions will be
  • Choose the right mode first — The mode determines the shape of the output, so select it before generating
  • Adjust the duration — The AI calibrates question count to fit your time limit, so set it before generating
