Managing Interview Sessions & Recordings
This guide covers how Qualz.ai handles interview recordings, multi-part sessions, and session management features that help ensure you capture complete interview data.
Interview Recording
All AI-moderated interviews on Qualz.ai are recorded automatically. The recording captures the full interview session including audio and (when enabled) video from the participant's camera.
Recordings appear in the Transcripts tab when you click on a specific transcript. Each transcript shows its associated recording at the top of the detail panel.
Recording and Camera Settings
Interview recording is always enabled for AI-moderated interviews. However, you can control the participant camera separately:
- Camera disabled (default) — Audio-only recording. Participants cannot turn on their camera.
- Camera enabled, off by default — Participants choose whether to turn on their camera during the interview.
- Camera enabled, on by default — Camera starts on, with browser permission prompt at interview start.
These settings are configured on the Configure step of the interview setup wizard.
Multi-Part Recordings
If a participant's connection drops during an interview, Qualz.ai automatically handles the interruption:
- Session persistence — The interview state is preserved when the connection drops.
- Automatic reconnection — If the participant reconnects quickly, the interview resumes seamlessly.
- Multi-part recording — Each connected segment is saved as a separate recording part.
- Automatic merge — The system automatically merges all recording parts into a single continuous video in the background.
What you see in the dashboard
- While merging is in progress, you may see individual session clips in the recording player.
- Once merging is complete, a Full Session chip appears, and the merged recording plays as a single continuous video.
- The merge process happens automatically — no action required from the researcher.
Reinviting Participants
If a participant's interview was interrupted, incomplete, or you need them to continue, you can send them a resume link.
- Go to the Transcripts tab.
- Click the three-dot menu on the participant's transcript.
- Select Reinvite Participant.
- Copy the resume link and share it with the participant.
Resume links are valid for one week. See How to Share an Interview Study with Participants for full details.
